From Behind the Chair to Behind the Brand: Our Real Story-Full Guide

We’ve said this so many times, but it’s the truth at the heart of everything we do. We never set out to start a brand. We were just two blondes from rural Minnesota who loved doing hair, loved serving our clients, and loved solving problems in the salon. Our goal was simple. Make each day smoother for ourselves and our team.

But when you’ve been behind the chair as long as we have, you start to notice something. Stylists everywhere are dealing with the same frustrations, the same limitations, and the same old tools that haven’t changed in decades. And eventually you think, someone should fix this. Someone should make this easier.

We said that a lot. Then one day, we finally asked the second part of that question. If nobody else is fixing it, why not us?

That moment changed everything.

How It Started: Just Two Stylists Trying to Make Life Easier

We’ve worked together since 2007. We co-owned a busy, successful salon in Alexandria. We were raising families, building careers, training teams, all the things you do when your plate is full and your heart is even fuller.

But while we were running a smooth operation, our tools were not doing us any favors. You know how it goes. Tippy trays, neck-strangling aprons, capes that make cutting long hair harder, not easier. If you’ve been behind the chair for even a little while, you’ve probably felt the same way.

We weren’t trying to launch a company. We were just trying to work more efficiently in our own salon. But every day brought the same issues. And every day brought the same question. Why is nobody fixing this?

Those conversations turned into ideas. Those ideas turned into curiosity. And curiosity turned into action.

The Turning Point: When One Tray Changed Everything

The Quick Tray wasn’t an invention. It was a reaction. A reaction to the old rolling trays that slowed us down and stressed us out.

When Jenel lived in Colorado, she used a tray that attached to the salon chair. It wasn’t perfect, but it made life so much easier. You could pull it close, adjust it, and trust that it wouldn’t wander off across the mat. When she moved back to Minnesota, she kept saying, “I can’t do hair without that tray.”

So we bought about a dozen of them, and used them for years to come. Unfortunately, over time, they eventually wore out, one by one. We began running out of functioning trays, and needed to start replacing them. So we went hunting. We searched online. We tried connecting with the salon owner from Colorado that originally had them. Nothing. Nobody sold them anymore.

That’s when everything shifted from conversation to creation. If we couldn’t buy the tool we needed, we’d build one.

And with that decision, the first Quick Tray was born in a manufacturing shop right here in Alexandria. We love that so much. Every prototype was made half a mile from our office. We’d drive over, tweak something, test it in the salon, and repeat the process until it worked exactly the way stylists needed it to.

A hometown idea built in a hometown shop.

Creating Tools From Real Life Behind the Chair

Every tool we’ve created since then has had the same beginning. A real stylist problem. A real conversation. A real solution.

  • The Quick Tray solved stability and reach.

  • The Reverse Cape solved long-hair cutting problems.

  • The Bleach-Proof Apron solved neck strain and comfort issues.

  • The Medi Tray solved sterility and accessibility for esthetics pros.

We don’t build something because it’s trendy. We build it because we’ve struggled with it ourselves. Every product has gone through real testing, in real salons, with real hairstylists who work the way we do.

Our heart has always been to support the beauty pro who shows up every day ready to serve their guests. And if something slows them down or wears them out, we want to fix it.

Still Behind the Chair. Still Learning. Still Building.

One thing people are always surprised by is that we still work behind the chair. We still take clients. We still train. We still style. We still live this life.

We never wanted to lose touch with the day-to-day reality of being a beauty professional. That’s where the best ideas come from. That’s where you see what needs to be solved. And that’s where you remember why you fell in love with this industry in the first place.

We are founders, but we are also stylists. We are problem solvers. We are learners. And we are women who believe that when you support stylists with the right tools, everything becomes easier. Your workflow. Your energy. Your longevity.

What We Believe Now More Than Ever

Building this brand hasn’t changed us. It has grounded us even deeper in what we care about.

We believe:

  • Stylists deserve tools that help them work smarter.

  • Your time and body matter.

  • Real problems need real solutions.

  • Great ideas come from everyday experiences.

  • Community and collaboration move our industry forward.

We aren’t here to impress anyone. We’re here to help.

From behind the chair to behind the brand, this journey has been full, surprising, and so rewarding. And the best part is knowing that everything we’ve made came from the same place your ideas come from too: passion, purpose, and a whole lot of heart.
